This week readings have been difficult to me .I think it is because I do not feel identified with the topic of large classes..Luckily I do not have large classes in the little Public High School I work, and neither in the Private Institution I work .I may have from 10 to 25 students in my classroom ,However the page from Geoscience Faculty has really broaden my perspective about the effort teachers have to make ,struggling with large classes.
What I have found really challenging is the interactive power point I am working on.I am used to Power point but not interactive ones,so creating an Interactive Presentation is not being any easy.for me.
But I like challenges.

Hi María Elena,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that creating an interactive PowerPoint is challenging, but as i always say When there is a will there is a way.

Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteThank god that you don't have large classes. Although articles of this week have given me new techniques for large class management, I still feel that the burden will remain.
Imaging marking 80 assignments weekly! Is there any alternative that a teacher can do to mark hi/her students assignments? yes, there are many alternative such as group activities, out-of-class activities and several other solutions forwarded in this week. But, honestly, you cannot imagine difficulties arising from teaching large classes unless you experience them.

Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteI like your never-to-say die attitude. I think this is how we grow as teacher. There are many things that we are not used to, are being given to through this course. Every new skill learnt will help us in the future. So the key is to learn them and keep them in our active memory box so that we can use them if we are in such situation.

Dear Maria Elena,
ReplyDeleteYou can’t imagine how lucky you are to have small classes. You are able to get to know your students personally and that helps a lot in the learning process. This doesn’t mean that this situation is permanent. As you said, a qualified teacher should expand his knowledge and experience about other prevailing situations so when the time comes, she or he isn’t shocked when put in different teaching environment than the one she or he used to work in.
